
3 WEEKS AHEAD
- Do any home improvements or organizing projects that need to be done before guests.
- Clean carpet.
2 WEEKS AHEAD
- Plan menus and write grocery list.
- Plan entertainment for guests.
- Iron outfits for the week and set aside.
1 WEEK AHEAD
- Do all laundry.
- Buy groceries and do miscellaneous errands.
- Pay all bills that need to be paid before company arrives.
- Clean house.
- Prepare guest bedroom, including washing the bedding, making space in the closet, and adding a few things, if needed.
- Prepare guest bathroom, including stocking up on soap, toilet paper, kleenex, and putting towels in an accessible location.
- Prepare as much food ahead of time as possible.
DAY OF ARRIVAL
- Straighten up the house. Make sure living room and kitchen are clean.
- Make sure guest bedroom and bathroom are clean.
- Spray a little air freshener, light candles, or open windows. Make sure the house looks nice.
- Start making snacks, lunch, or dinner, so it will be ready before guests arrive.
That covers most of the typical things I do to get ready for guests. If there is a holiday or special event during the visit, you will, of course, need to also get ready for that. I hope this helps you to get organized, feel calm and relaxed, and enjoy your guest.
