The busy Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays will be here soon. We’ll soon be shopping, decorating, cooking, baking, and celebrating. It can get a little stressful, but for the most part, I love it!
To make the most of your time before the holiday season, I’ve got a list of projects to do now, in the fall, before the busy holidays. If you get these things done now and out of the way, come November, you’ll be set up for a smooth, organized, calm, holiday season. Just prioritize and choose the areas you feel need the most work in your life.

FOOD
- Write out your typical menus for all holiday events.
- Start stocking up on ingredients you use for the holidays.
- Start cooking and freezing as much as you can. Also, cook and freeze some meals for busy weeknights.
- Bake and freeze some cookies, cakes, and other desserts.
DECORATE
- Decorate or just do small updates in guest rooms.
- Locate and organize Christmas decorations so that you’ll be ready to decorate soon after Thanksgiving.
BUDGET
- Pay off debts as much as possible before the busy Christmas shopping season.
- Write out a realistic budget that includes a plan for extra holiday expenses.
FAMILY AND FRIENDS
- Connect with family members and friends and plan your parties and get-togethers.
- If short on time, schedule pre-holiday get-togethers with family and friends.
- Start planning your parties and make a checklist of all prep to be done.
SELF
- Schedule doctor and dentist checkups in the fall, before the busy season.
- Try your best to lose weight now and get ready to maintain it through the holidays.
- Shop for fall and holiday clothes now. It’s difficult to shop for yourself while doing Christmas shopping.
TIME AND SCHEDULING
- Before November, take an hour or two and map out all your events and holiday preparations. Plug in all events and then write on your calendar when you will do all your shopping, decorating, cooking, and baking. I’ll have a lot more on this in the coming weeks.
Those are just some ideas to get you organized and ready for the upcoming busy holidays. Don’t get overwhelmed and feel like you must do all these projects. Just prioritize and do what you think would help you the most.
I hope this gets you motivated and excited about fall and the holidays. Please feel free to let us know in the comments below of other ways you like to get organized in the fall.
Till next time, have a wonderful fall day!
