If you’re always feeling rushed, stressed, and overwhelmed, you’re not alone. Balancing our time and, actually, our lives, is a tricky, complicated task. Even though I love to write about it and give tips, I also struggle with it. Who doesn’t? Well, recently, after feeling overwhelmed with trying to get several projects completed, I decided to take a little time and try something new, something I used to do and forgot about in the last few years. Today, I’m going to share with you what I’ve been doing that has really changed my perspective on things. Maybe this would work for you too.
Why do we feel stressed? Well, for me, I noticed I feel this way when I think too much about what’s ahead and it overwhelms me. Sounds simple, huh? Well, the solution is simple. The solution is really just an attitude adjustment. The solution for me, and this is the only thing that makes me feel content instead of anxious, is this: LIVE ONE DAY AT A TIME!
I used to always think this way when going through the busy child-raising years, and if that’s you, please try it! It kept me going through busy, crazy days. Instead of thinking of your massive list of things going on in your life, you just focus on today, as much as possible.
So, how do you live one day at a time, and still prepare for the future? It takes balance and the right attitude. The following are the things that are helping me to live one day at a time and still get things done without the stress.
- Set priorities for your life. If you know your priorities, you don’t need to feel bad for not getting things done that are lower on your list. For me, that means God and family are first, followed by my own health, then everything that needs to be done in our household. Outside activities are still important, but need to be lower on the priority list.
- Make a weekly and daily schedule, but be flexible. This means you always need to keep your priorities in mind, therefore, if you can’t get everything done, you shouldn’t get stressed about it because you know you got the most important things done.
- Try your best, but don’t expect perfection. Every day we make progress, but nobody can reach perfection. Be kind to yourself, knowing you’re doing your best. There’s always tomorrow.
- Focus on today. Instead of getting overwhelmed about everything you’ve got going on, just try to get through today. Tomorrow will be a new day with new activities and challenges.
- Prepare for the future in small, manageable pieces. We do need to prepare for the future, but if you just do a little each day, you’ll be ready.
- Stop hurrying! I’ve been guilty of this too, but recently, I tried slowing down my pace and found that I’m still getting things done, but with less stress and more enjoyment of life.
Now, for the benefits:
- More calm and relaxed
- Enjoy life more
- Enjoy people more
- Better sleep
- Better attitude
- Feel less pressure
Trust me, I’m not saying I’ve got all stress conquered. I’m still working on this every day. My family knows I’m a natural “worrier”, but with these tips above, I’m hoping to get better each day, living according to my priorities, with less stress, and more enjoyment of life! I hope my ideas will help you too! Please feel free to leave comments below and let me know some of your ideas for living stress-free.
Till next time, have a wonderful, stress-free day!
