Saving Time With An Organized Wardrobe

If your closet is a mess and you waste time every morning trying to look presentable for the day, you’ve come to the right place. Today, I’ve got ideas and inspiration for saving time with an organized wardrobe. Whether your wardrobe is small or large, there’s a way to simplify your closet and make putting yourself together every day easy. Sound good? Let’s get started!

BENEFITS OF AN ORGANIZED WARDROBE

  • More focused shopping because you know what you have and what you need.
  • Every piece of clothing has a special place in your closet, which makes finding things easier.
  • Putting outfits together is easier.
  • No need to weed through things in your closet that don’t work for you.
  • Your organized wardrobe might inspire your husband to organize his half (or third) of the closet.

HOW TO SET UP AN ORGANIZED WARDROBE

  1. Start with a closet cleanse. Go through every piece of clothing in your closet. Only keep things in good condition, things that fit, flattering color, and useful for your lifestyle. Everything else goes to charity. For a more in-depth closet cleansing process, go here.
  2. Your closet should now only have items that really work for you. Now, write down all the typical activities that you do in a typical week and think about what type of clothes you need for each activity. Give it a name, such as dressy, nice casual, at-home casual, workout wear, and whatever else works for you.
  3. Have a section in your wardrobe for each type of clothing, such as a dressy section, nice casual, workout wear, etc. Put every single piece of clothing in the appropriate section.
  4. Within each section, put all tops together, pants together, and so on.
  5. Colorize each group within the section starting with tops, pants, and then the rest. When you finish, you should have each group of clothes going from lightest to darkest. Your closet is starting to look like a nice boutique, right?
  6. Go through the same process with your shoes, purses, and jewelry.
  7. You now have an organized wardrobe, complete with items that you love and actually work for your lifestyle!!! Feels good, right?

HOW TO MAINTAIN YOUR WARDROBE

  1. After giving away some of your old clothes, you might see that you need to shop for replacements. Make a list of clothing items you need to replace some of the things you got rid of.
  2. Add to the list some items that you feel would make your wardrobe more updated, such as a few trendy things.
  3. Add to your list shoes, purses, or other accessories that would be nice to update your wardrobe.
  4. Prioritize your list and make a shopping plan.
  5. With your budget in mind, shop for items according to your priorities to make your wardrobe better as you go through the season.
  6. Also, feel free to get rid of things in the middle of the season that you later decided don’t really work for you.
  7. Throughout the season, add things to your shopping list when needed.
  8. Continue to keep your closet organized according to categories and colorized.

SAVING TIME WITH ORGANIZED OUTFIT PLANNING

Now that you have a new organized wardrobe, it’s time to have a simple system for picking out your outfits on a daily basis. I’m going to give you two methods. One is super simple. The other takes a little time at first for planning but, once you’ve done the planning, your outfit planning process will be super easy. I’ll explain each in detail, but first let’s give these two methods a name. One is for Super Simple Sallys. The other is for Perfect Planner Peggys.

Super Simple Sally:

  1. Check your daily schedule and activities.
  2. Check the weather.
  3. Go to your closet to the appropriate section, for example, the nice casual section.
  4. Pick a top on the very left, and then pick a bottom that will go with it. Each day, alternate, and pick the next top after the previous one.
  5. By alternating this way, you don’t have to give much thought to what you’re wearing and everything will get worn. You also will be able to go a long time before re-wearing things. Super simple, right?

Perfect Planner Peggy:

  1. After cleaning and organizing your wardrobe, take an extra 30 minutes or so to do some outfit pre-planning.
  2. Grab a notebook and pen and look through your closet. Pick 14 of your favorite tops and 7-14 of your favorite bottoms. Write out 14 days of outfits, using these absolute favorites.  Write a description and brand name to help you remember. Even better, take a picture.
  3. Beside each outfit, write down how you would style each outfit, including shoes, purse, and jewelry.
  4. You now have a 2- week plan of outfits that you love!!!
  5. Each day, check your schedule, activities, and the weather. Go to your list and pick one of your favorite outfits that would look great for your day.

You could also do a combination of the two methods. Wear one of your favorite outfits from the list when you have special things on your schedule, and just alternate pieces on the other days.

I hope I’ve given you some new ideas or at least inspired you to try some things you’ve never tried before. Next time, we’re going to simplify our beauty routines because we all want to look good, but who has time to waste primping?

Till next time, have a wonderful day!
