White jeans, in my opinion, are a summer wardrobe essential! They’re super versatile because they can be worn as part of a casual outfit, dressy outfit, or even somewhere in between. They look great on ALL body types. Yes, they absolutely do! And, best of all, they can be worn year round! Some of you may be skeptical, thinking white is too much maintenance or adds pounds. Trust me on this. It’s just a matter of finding the right pair.
STYLES
There are many different styles and, although they’re very versatile, I think you should consider buying 2-3 pairs of white jeans, in different styles and lengths. This is recommended in the fall and winter with blue jeans and, therefore, I think we need a summer version, which are white jeans.
Before you go shopping for this summer wardrobe staple, there are some things in keep in mind. If you would like to buy 2-3 different pairs, get one of each of the following:
- White crop pants or capris
- White jeans, slim fit
- White jeans, bootcut
GOOD FIT IS EVERYTHING
A great-fitting pair of white jeans is the key here. This is what makes white jeans work for all sizes. A great pair will fit like a glove. Remember these tips for a great fit:
- As with all pants that you shop for, consider your body type when shopping for different styles.
- Midrise is best to prevent muffin top.
- Pockets will add bulk, so only buy styles with flat pockets.
- Make sure the waist, hip, and butt areas aren’t too snug, and just skims the outer thigh. Also, don’t buy any with a saggy crotch or baggy in the rear.
LOOK FOR QUALITY
For very casual capris or crops, you can probably get away with discount brands, but for a great pair of white jeans that you plan to wear for dressier occasions, look for a brand (price isn’t the determining factor here) with these high quality features:
- A good, firm fabric will look best on all body types. Flimsy, thin, shoddy white denim probably wouldn’t look good on anyone.
- Stay away from styles with ripped knees, frayed edges, and holes, unless you’re under 40.
- Look for cotton and spandex fabric, but make sure the spandex is less than 3%. There’s lots of different opinions on this, but whenever I buy anything with too much spandex, it shrinks and never looks the same again.
- Buy white jeans that are BRIGHT white, not a yellowish white. White jeans will yellow on their own after a while, so I think it’s best to start with BRIGHT white.
HOW TO KEEP YOUR WHITE JEANS LOOKING AWESOME
White jeans, if worn throughout summer, can get pretty worn by September. If you take good care of them, however, they might just last through fall and next summer, too. Here are some tips for taking care of your new white jeans:
- Always wash them inside out, with zippers zipped.
- Wash them with other whites only, not with light colored clothes.
- Use a good quality detergent for these, to keep them looking bright and white.
- Don’t use bleach. Bleach can turn some whites yellow.
- Hang to dry. I do this with all pants that I want to keep new-looking. It prevents them from shrinking and keeps their original shape. (We worked too hard to find the right fit, remember?)
- Whenever you spill something on them, spot-clean right away.
SEVERAL WAYS TO STYLE WHITE JEANS
Here are some examples taken from things I have in my wardrobe:
These are 2 ways to wear casual white crop pants. The crop pants are older, but originally from Bass outlet. The pink top is from Cato. The green top is from Stein Mart. Most of the jewelry is from Charming Charlie.
These are 2 ways to wear white bootcut jeans. Jeans are from Banana Republic Outlet. The top on the left is from Stein Mart and the top on the right is from Marshalls. The jewelry is older and some were gifts.
The white pants are from Dress Barn. The top on the left is from Cato and the top on the right is from Stein Mart. The jewelry is from Charming Charlie.
I hope this inspires you to find a great pair of white jeans. I think you’ll be amazed at how many different outfit combinations you’ll get from this one basic wardrobe item. You might also want to check out my previous post, Easy Summer Wardrobe On A Budget, for more wardrobe tips.
